The resolution to purchase the $5.5 million property, which closed at the end of the 2019-2020 school year, was made during a Wednesday afternoon meeting with Elizabeth BOE President Jerry Jacobs, NJ.com reports.

The 824-864 North Broad St. property sits on more than 5.12 acres and includes a main building with eight classrooms, a gym, a cafeteria, locker rooms, a science lab, and administrator office, the resolution states.

Also included is an annex building with three additional classrooms.

“This is a great day for the city of Elizabeth, for us being able to acquire this property in our North End neighborhood,” said Jacobs in the report. "The district is growing by leaps and bounds."

Elizabeth follows Newark and Jersey City as one of the largest school districts in the Garden State and contains about 30,400 students — around 1,500 of whom registered just this summer.
